Description
Do you need to teach your students about the suffix y? This suffix -y presentation takes care of one week of lesson plans!
Suffix -Y Presentation Daily Routine
Day 1: Introduce the function of suffixes. They change the meanings of words or give us more information about a word. This lesson is about the suffix -y. Adding the suffix -y to a base word usually changes a noun (sometimes a verb) into an adjective. These adjectives describe what something is like. Today, students will add -y to base words. For example, cloud becomes cloudy.
Day 2: You will follow the same routine as day 1, but you will introduce adding the suffix -y to words that end in a silent e. In this case, we take away the -e and add -y. For example, shine becomes shiny.
Day 3: You will follow the same routine as days 1 and 2, but you will introduce adding the suffix -y to words that end in a short vowel and one consonant. In this case, we double the consonant and add -y. For example, sun becomes sunny.
Day 4 – 5: Students will practice all of the spelling patterns.
Mixed Review: You will also get 25 mixed review slides to incorporate into later practice sessions.
