Suffix -EST Presentation Daily Routine
Day 1: Introduce the function of suffixes. They change the meanings of words or give us more information about a word. This lesson is about suffixes that change adjectives into superlative adjectives. For example, the word fast becomes fastest. This is the suffix -est. Today, you will only work with words where you don’t change the base word and add -est.
Day 2: You will follow the same routine as day 1, but you will introduce adding the suffix -est to words that end in a silent e. In this case, we just add -st. For example, safe becomes safest.
Day 3: You will follow the same routine as days 1 and 2, but you will introduce adding the suffix -est to words that end in a short vowel and one consonant. In this case, we double the consonant and add -est. For example, hot becomes hottest.
Day 4: You will follow the same routine as previous days, but you will introduce adding the suffix -est to words that end in the letter y. in this case, we drop the letter y and add -iest. For example, itchy becomes itchiest.
Day 5: Students will practice all of the spelling patterns.
