Do you need to teach your students about the suffix er? This suffix -er presentation takes care of one week of lesson plans!
Suffix -ER Presentation Daily Routine
Day 1: Introduce the function of suffixes. They change the meanings of words or give us more information about a word. This lesson is about suffixes that change adjectives into comparative adjectives. For example, the word fast becomes faster. This is the suffix -er. Today, you will only work with words where you don’t change the base word and add -er.
Day 2: You will follow the same routine as day 1, but you will introduce adding the suffix -er to words that end in a silent e. In this case, we just add the letter r. For example, safe becomes safer.
Day 3: You will follow the same routine as days 1 and 2, but you will introduce adding the suffix -er to words that end in a short vowel and one consonant. in this case, we double the consonant and add -er. For example, hot becomes hotter.
Day 4: You will follow the same routine as previous days, but you will introduce adding the suffix -er to words that end in the letter y. in this case, we drop the letter y and add -ier. For example, itchy becomes itchier.
Day 5: Students will practice all of the spelling patterns.
Mixed Review: You will also get 25 mixed review slides to incorporate into later practice sessions.
