Description
Do you need to teach your students about base words? This base words presentation takes care of a week of lesson plans!
Base Word Presentation Daily Routine
Day 1: Introduce the definition of base words and show examples. You can solicit student suggestions as you build a classroom anchor chart. Make sure you get some non-examples! Show a picture and have students record the base words they see in their writing notebooks. Have students share their ideas with each other!
Day 2: Review the definition and examples of base words. This is a great time for students to revisit their work from yesterday. Show a new picture and have students record the base words they see. Again, they can share their work with peers.
Day 3: Have students tell you (or each other) the definition of a base word. Review work from the previous two days. Show a new picture. After recording base words, some students may be ready to start writing sentences with the base words. As always, wrap up by sharing with others.
Day 4: Repeat day 3.
Day 5: Use the final picture as an assessment to see what each student knows. You can set the minimum number of base words they must list. You may or may not choose to have them write the base words in sentences. Collect the papers and use the data to plan instruction and small groups for the next week.
If you have older students or are using these slides as a review of base words, you will not want to spend an entire week with the slides. Do what makes sense for your class!
